Free Things to do in Chicago

Though not one of the cheapest places in the world to be in, Chicago has ample of opportunities for people who are looking to have some fun here without spending any money. There are plenty of things to do in Chicago without having to spend a dollar. Here are some of the free things that you can do in Chicago.

Every Thursday evening is an art aficionado’s delight here because the Art Institute of Chicago allows free admissions. The institute has a wide assortment of things featured in it, right from works of celebrated artists to things and relics of ages gone by. Some of the names that are featured here include Ellsworth Kelly and David Hockney. The Museum of Contemporary Art is free on Tuesdays, and here you will find artists such as Alexander Calder.

It might seem to be not quite much, but you should definitely not miss out on the Buckingham Fountain display and that is not just because it is free. The display, which includes lights and music, starts at dusk and continues till 10 pm every evening. You have to experience the 134 jets producing their display to believe the beauty of this fountain.

If you are a fan of literature, you would enjoy visiting the Chicago Public Library, where you would find that you get free admission for most of what it has to offer. There are various free events conducted here such as the Money Smart Week and an annual poetry festival.

A great free idea for a family to have fun in Chicago is a visit to the Botanical Garden. There are more than 200 species of birds here and the garden is full of trees of various species. There are also some amazing sculptures. The garden has free entry in the main seasons of spring and summer, and closes at 8 pm.

Movie buffs can have some free but unforgettable experiences at the Chicago Park District where classics are exhibited without any cost. Sometimes, recent releases are also shown.
