Quote of the Day: Vegetable Tyranny

This is socialism of the highest order!

– Representative Paul Broun (R-GA) worrying that the U.S. government will “be calling you to make sure you eat fruits and vegetables, every day” after the CDC reported that Americans don’t eat enough produce. Dahlia Lithwick argues that politicians like this are trying to “work through issues with their mothers” whenever they start wailing about communistic veggie controls. [Slate]

Terrorism, Another Reason to Avoid the Buffet

As if expanding waistlines and lukewarm foods weren’t reason enough to avoid the all-you-can-eat buffet, the Department of Homeland Security is warming that there might be another reason to stay away. The feds recently conducted meetings with security personnel at hotels and restaurants, warning them that terrorists might try to slip poison into salad bars and buffets as part of a coordinated campaign. Sadly, sneeze guards don’t provide much protection in these cases. [CBS]

Quote of Day: Don’t Diss My Banana Guard

Sorry, but I have a banana guard and it’s great. I run to work so everything gets shoved into my backpack. I endure a lot of jokes in the changeroom at the gym, and even my husband thought it was crazy…but he tried it and now we have two in our gadget drawer at home.
