Step inside the only Chicago bridgehouse that is open to the public! The McCormick Bridgehouse & Chicago River Museum is located in the southwest tower of the Michigan Avenue Bridge, at the heart of the new downtown Riverwalk. Entrance is on the riverwalk level. Exhibits on each of the tower’s five floors reveal the inside story of how the river changed with the growth of the city it inspired. The climb to the top of the tower is rewarded with magnificent views of the river and the city.

Built in 1836 for Henry B. Clarke, the Clarke House Museum is Chicago’s oldest house. The house shows what life was like for a middle-class family in Chicago during the city’s formative years before the Civil War. Its fascinating history began at a time when family members could see the campfires of Native Americans in the distance.

On March 10, 1954, the Chicago City Council decided to honor veterans of the United States armed forces by naming a new southside park Veteran’s Memorial Park. This tribute was a natural extension of the patriotic attitude that prevailed across the country during and after World War II. Gage Park measures 69 acres of green space ands is located in the culturally- rich heritage section of the Gage Park community, which is home to many of the city’s historic bungalow homes. Gage Park offers nonstop recreational activities for all ages.
